The Crime Victims' Compensation Program ( CVCP) is an awards program created by the Oregon Legislature in 1977. The three main goals of CVCP are to provide financial assistance to victims of violent crime and their family members (in specific instances) when no other means of payment is available, to promote victims cooperation in the criminal justice system, and to hold offenders financially responsible for their actions by collecting claim costs back from offenders whenever possible.
Victims of sexual assault can file a separate application for CVCP even if they had their "partial" or "complete" medical assessment billed and paid for by the SAVE Fund. If approved, a victim's CVCP claim can help pay for any remaining balance on the initial emergency room bill as well as follow-up treatments, prescriptions and counseling. To be eligible for CVCP, certain statutory eligibility criteria must be met by each victim or applicant.
