Attorney General John Kroger is unveiling a new program to help Oregon consumers avoid mortgage fraud and stay in their homes during this deep recession.

The Oregon Department of Justice Web site now features important information for consumers to help avoid mortgage fraud scams and get counseling help.

The new consumer protection initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to combat mortgage fraud. Attorney General Kroger this week also announced that the Department of Justice had won a $677,000 federal grant to hire a prosecutor and an investigator to go after mortgage fraud scammers who target vulnerable Oregon consumers.
