INDICTMENT ANNOUNCED IN 2007 LINN COUNTY MURDER CASE

June 25, 2010

Lorraine Elizabeth Sarich was indicted on three counts of Aggravated Murder

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller and Oregon Attorney General John Kroger today announced an indictment in a 3-year-old murder case.

Lorraine Elizabeth Sarich (DOB: 8/12/66) was indicted Thursday on three counts of Aggravated Murder. Sarich was charged with causing the death of William Mills on January 26, 2007, in order to conceal the commission of Identity Theft, Theft by Deception and Perjury.

Sarich is in the custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections on other charges.

A criminal indictment is merely an allegation. Every criminal defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The case was investigated by the Detective Unit from Linn County Sheriff's Office. The Department of Justice's Medicaid Fraud Unit, the Salem Police Department and the Social Security Administration's Office of Inspector General also were instrumental in the investigation. The case will be prosecuted by Senior Assistant Attorneys General O. Scott Jackson and Michael Slauson.

Attorney General John Kroger leads the Oregon Department of Justice. The Department's mission is to fight crime and fraud, protect the environment, improve child welfare, promote a positive business climate, and defend the rights of all Oregonians.
