OR DOJ/SALEM POLICE ARREST S. SALEM HS BASKETBALL COACH FOR FIVE COUNTS OF ENCOURAGING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

Law enforcement officials from the Oregon Department of Justice and the City of Salem Police Department today arrested Rodney Howard, head basketball coach at South Salem High School, for five counts of Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. Officers also conducted a search of Howard's home and recovered a number of pieces of computer equipment.

Howard was booked at the Marion County Jail. Howard will appear in court at 4000 Aumsville Highway, Salem, Oregon on September 1, 2005 at 8:30 am.

The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Oregon Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), a joint state, federal and local law enforcement collaboration established to protect Oregon's children through community education and the identification, apprehension and prosecution of those who commit internet crimes against children. The Task Force is housed at the Oregon Department of Justice and has over 75 federal, state and local law enforcement partners.
