A Right to Know: What Human Trafficking Survivors and Their Advocates Need to Know About Monetary Remedies in the Law
In 2003, Congress amended Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) to add a civil remedy provision. Most states have now followed Congress’ lead by passing human trafficking laws that also included a survivor’s right to sue. For many years these civil remedy provisions in the law have been underutilized in the fight against the crime of human trafficking.
