Attorney General Hardy Myers will host technology experts from both the private and public sectors to discuss "the good, the bad and the really ugly" aspects of the Internet at SCAM JAM 2000, the Department of Justice's annual consumer protection conference. The one-day conference will take place on Wednesday, February 16, at the Valley River Inn in Eugene.
The conference agenda includes a keynote address by Teresa Schwartz of the Federal Trade Commission on "Internet Law Enforcement-The Challenges Ahead" and a presentation entitled "Hate on the Internet: Helping Children Safely Navigate the Web" by Brian Goldberg, Northwest Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League.
In addition, there will be a session on conducting Internet investigations, including a discussion on combating fraud on the Internet, and a panel discussion featuring, among others, Jeanette Slepian, Vice President of Business Development for 800.COM, one of Oregon's most successful Internet businesses.
Media organizations are encouraged to send a representative to the conference. Registration forms for the conference will be accepted until noon, Tuesday, February 15. Interested parties may call Dawn Faulkner for additional information at (503) 378-4732.
