Crime Victims' Rights Awareness Day To Be Observed Monday At State Capitol
Monday, April 9, is Oregon's Crime Victims' Rights Awareness Day at the State Capitol in Salem. Crime victims and their families, advocates, service providers, law enforcement officials and community leaders will spend the day educating legislators and the public about the issues victims face in the aftermath of a crime.
At 8:30 a.m., in room 357, the House Judiciary Committee will hold public hearings on House Joint Resolutions 49 and 50, two Constitutional Amendments that would make the rights of victims enforceable under Oregon law. Attorney General Hardy Myers will join crime victims' rights advocates in testifying in support of both measures.
The Attorney General also will provide public comments to guests at 1:00 p.m. in the Capitol Galleria, immediately following a reception. Displays and educational materials will be available, and Carol Schrader, Oregon Crime Victims Rights Compliance Project Coordinator, will be on hand to discuss the victims' rights compliance project.
For more information on crime victims services in Oregon visit the Department of Justice Crime Victims Assistance Section website at www.doj.state.or.us/crimev. House Joint Resolutions 49 and 50 can be downloaded at www.leg.state.or.us.
