About Ellen F. Rosenblum
Attorney General Hardy Myers today released his annual report profiling the twenty nonprofit organizations that generated the most inquiries to the Oregon Department of Justice over the preceding year.
"With the holidays approaching, Oregonians can count on being solicited for charitable contributions by a wide variety of organizations," Myers said. "This year's report looks at a broader spectrum of these organizations in order to facilitate informed giving."
The report entitled "Charitable Giving; It Makes a Difference" is currently available on the Department's web site at www.doj.state.or.us... Each profile includes information about the organization's mission and expenditures, its fundraising practices, and its status with the Better Business Bureau.
"Oregon's charities continue to suffer from the combined impact of increased need, reduced contributions, and limited state support," Myers said. "In such an environment, it is critical that donors use the many resources available to maximize the value of their charitable giving."
The Charitable Activities Section of the Oregon Department of Justice, which maintains financial information on over 11,000 charities, welcomes inquiries both online at www.doj.state.or.us and by phone at (503) 229-5725 and encourages Oregonians to give generously and wisely.
