Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers today announced the sentencing of Ricky Lynn Johnson, 52, president of NuStart Concepts, Inc. Johnson was sentenced to 51 months in prison and ordered to pay $2,825,490 in restitution, representing the total investments of 284 investors and groups of investors in NuStart. Judge Thomas J. Rastetter presided over the sentencing hearing in Clackamas County Circuit Court.
In August, Johnson pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated theft in the first degree, two counts of theft in the first degree, four counts of selling an unregistered security, four counts of sale of securities by an unlicensed person and six counts of securities fraud.
NuStart Concepts, Inc., which also conducted business as ReStart and KidStart, was located in Lake Oswego. The company marketed nutritional snack bars.
The Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services, Division of Finance and Corporate Securities initiated the investigation in August 2001. Department of Justice officials joined the investigation in June 2003.
