Update

On 3/13/25, the plaintiff states filed their complaint.

On 3/24/25, plaintiffs filed a motion for preliminary injunction.

On 5/22/25, the district court issued a preliminary injunction order, blocking efforts to dismantle the Department of Education and requiring the rehiring of thousands of federal employees. That same day, federal defendants filed a notice of appeal to the First Circuit.

On 6/4/25, the First Circuit denied the government’s stay motion.

On 7/14/25, the Supreme Court issued an order granting a stay of the preliminary injunction pending appeal.
