Keeping Your Personal Information Confidential in Situations of Child Abuse and Domestic Violence
If you or your children are in an unsafe situation, the Oregon Child Support Program can take additional precautions to protect your information while continuing to provide services.

For parents paying support
Safety Information for Parents Who Pay Support
If you are a parent who pays support and you or your children are in an unsafe situation, you can apply for a Claim of Risk.
Claim of Risk
Your personal information is confidential when it’s in child support records. However, documents sent to the other parent, other party, or filed in court may include your address and other personal information, and could help someone find you. If you think you or the child could be harmed, you can ask to keep your personal information protected while the Child Support Program helps you get child and medical support.

For parents or caretakers receiving support
Safety Information for Parents Receiving Support and for Caretakers
If you are a parent or a caretaker in an unsafe situation who wishes to to seek child support safely, you can apply for a Claim of Risk.
If you do not wish to seek child support because doing so may be unsafe for you or your family, you can apply for Good Cause.

Good Cause
If it is not safe at all to pursue child support or to establish a legal father for the child, you can ask the Child Support Program to not work your case. You may qualify for Good Cause if any of these situations applies to you:

- Helping the DOJ Division of Child Support or the District Attorney could bring harm to you or the child
- The child was born following incest or rape
- You are working with a public or private social agency to help you decide about adoption

For students aged 18 - 21 who are attending school
If you are a child who may be turning 18 and under 21 with an open child support order and attending school, and you have concerns for your safety, you may apply for a Claim of Risk.

REPORT CHILD ABUSE
If you believe a child is in danger, please make a confidential report to your local Oregon Department of Human Services Child Welfare office » or your local law enforcement agency. If it is an emergency, dial 911.
