Update

On 8/13/26, the plaintiff states filed their complaint and motion for temporary restraining order, as well as a motion to quash the DHS subpoena. Later that same day, the district court administratively stayed the federal government’s data demand.

On 8/14/26, the district court administratively stayed the Department of Homeland Security subpoena.

On 8/20/26, the district court entered a temporary restraining order and also issued an order continuing the time for AAMVA to respond to the DHS subpoena.

The plaintiff states filed a first amended complaint on 8/25/26, and a motion for preliminary injunction on 8/27/26.

On 9/17/26, the district court issued an order granting the states’ preliminary injunction motion.
