Registration
This year, registration is required » so that we are able to provide language interpretation more seamlessly. You may still participate anonymously to protect your privacy! Here are some tips for registering:
- You may register the same day as a session is being held.
- You may create an appropriate pseudonym when you register. Please choose a name that will not offend other attendees. If you plan to participate either by chat or verbally, be sure the name you choose is a name you are comfortable with being called.
- You may use a fake email account when you register (e.g.: me@me.me). The login information is already provided to you (above).
For your and everyone’s emotional safety, our host has the ability to immediately expel from any session any person engaging in hate speech, using inappropriate pseudonyms, or showing hate images, and they will be permanently barred from the session. Please contact Heather Doyle at Heather.Doyle@doj.state.or.us with any questions or concerns regarding this process during the session.
Privacy, Security, and Logistics
It is important to us that we make these conversations a safe place to share and accessible to communication going both ways.
- Sessions will not be recorded. However, all Chat and email submissions are recorded, saved, and may be subject to public records request laws.
- We ask that all attendees help create an environment that is safe for all. While we have disabled copy and paste functions in the Chat for this reason, please note that other attendees may screenshot things you put in the Chat.
- Any participant may be anonymous if they so choose. You may choose to participate with or without your name and/or organization spelled out on the right side of the screen. You can choose to call in anonymously (dial *67 before our phone number) and will be identified only as Caller 1, 2, 3, etc.
- All sessions will begin with all participants on mute. This is because we are anticipating many attendees, and this will help reduce background noise.
- All sessions will begin with all participants’ own videos disabled. For our Deaf and Hard of Hearing session, or for any sessions where video access for ASL interpretation is an accommodation required for participation (and requested in advance as described above), participants’ videos may be shown when/if they request to participate.
- Each session will be an open conversation where we will openly discuss a number of topics (topics in English, topics in Spanish).
- We ask that if you would like to speak that you raise your hand. (Instructions will be given at the beginning of each session for how to do this.) When we call on you, we will unmute your audio to share with the group, and then mute you when you are finished sharing.
- Please say your name (“This is Ben”) every time you speak to the group. This is for the benefit of those participating over the phone and those relying on ASL interpreters.
- This year, we will host a 5-15 minute guided grounding exercise at the end of each Community Conversation. Please feel free to stay online to participate from 3-3:15pm.
Information on Joining the Community Conversations Sessions
Using Zoom for Government
- All sessions will utilize the program Zoom for Government for those who want to participate with video and audio. If you do not want to use Zoom for Government and simply want to call in by phone, see below.
- Zoom for Government uses the Zoom app available for free in your App Store. Please plan to download the app prior to the scheduled Community Conversation session in case you have any issues. Help is available at https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us » or by contacting Heather Doyle at Heather.Doyle@doj.state.or.us.
- If you choose to use Zoom via your web browser rather than the Zoom app, please note that your functionality/access may be different from what we describe on this site and in our sessions.
- Please plan to login to the session early in case there are any technical difficulties we need to sort out.
- Login information for each session is the same, and is available above.
- When you login, you will be asked for your first and last name, your email, and the password. If you would like to participate without providing identifying information, please make up an appropriate name. For your email, you may use a fake email account (e.g.: me@me.me).
Calling In
- All sessions allow for participation via a phone number.
- Interpretation is available for those participating by smartphone/computer and is not available for those participating through the dial-in telephone option.
- Call-in information for each session is the same, and the dial in number, meeting ID, and password are available above.
- Once on the call, you will be automatically muted. To speak during the session, dial *9, and your hand will be raised. You will then be unmuted, called on by the facilitator and you can share your input.
